Maddy learned how to kiteboard
through the Western Washington University kiteboarding club during his junior year of college. The day after graduation, he drove straight to the Outer Banks of North Carolina, where he spent two years fully immersed in kiteboarding and surfing. After returning to Bellingham, he worked at KPS for three years - what he calls the best years of his life (his words not ours). Every spare moment was spent kiteboarding, kitefoiling, surfing, and convincing non-wind folks to join the windsports world.
While working at KPS, Dave (of KPS fame) introduced him to surfboard shaping and glassing, which eventually sparked a new career in composites engineering. He’s had a blast watching the shop, the gear and technology rapidly grow over the years.
Maddy's ideal day on the water is a three-way tie between a nuker wing session at Rufus, perfect offshore surf at Hobuck, and a sunny Chuckanut flat water kite session.
He loves KPS for their all-in dedication to getting people stoked on water sports and because it’s hands-down his favorite place in town to hang out, crack a beer, and crush a hotdog.
