Armstrong XPS MK II Review - is it worth upgrading to this new wing?

Armstrong XPS MK II Review - is it worth upgrading to this new wing?

Ethan Fritzberg |

The Armstrong XPS version one wing has been among the best wings available since it was released in 2023. Its cross-panel sail design delivered a tight, stable canopy with clean, consistent power across the wind range. The original XPS was loved for its stability, upwind efficiency, and it's ability to cover a wide wind range as well as smaller design choices such as the rigid handles, window design, and removable trailing edge battens.

Now, in 2025, Armstrong has followed up with the XPS Mk II. It keeps the DNA of the original but introduces some thoughtful upgrades that make it more stable, customizable, and durable.

NEW Modular Handle System: Dyna-Link

A standout feature—the Dyna‑Link system lets you switch effortlessly between the stock handles, carbon handles or a full carbon boom—no tools needed. Please note that the wing does come with stock handles but the carbon handles and the boom are an additional item.

  • It uses Dyneema anchor loops for a clean, hardware-free connection that secures firmly once the strut is inflated.
  • Handle and boom lengths are scaled S‑M‑L by wing size, and anchoring points are tuned every three sizes for consistent balance.
  • Both grip types feature a carbon core wrapped in textured EVA, delivering a balance of comfort and feedback—even in long sessions

NEW Re-Engineered Airframe for Stability & Upwind Performance

  • The Mk II sports a lower aspect ratio design, improving stability and making upwind riding smoother and more efficient, especially in smaller sizes.
  • Optimized leading edge diameter and airfoil shape balance gust control with speed.
  • A subtle double-bend strut introduces pre‑twist for a more efficient foil shape in use and a more ergonomic arm position—aimed at reducing fatigue.
  • Reinforced with DLE 160 and 130 fabrics for a strong, lightweight frame built to withstand the rigors of real-world use

Is it worth upgrading to the MK II if I already have the XPS version one?

I would say that this is totally dependent on the condition of your current XPS version one wings. If they are towards the end of their life span it is definitely worth the upgrade, if they still have life left I would hold off, at least for now. The version one wings are fantastic and still comparable to some of the best wings on the market today. While there are improvements on the new wings, they aren't significant enough for me to recommend replacement unless you are ready.
