Catch Surf Odysea Skipper Quad 5'6" - At a Glance
The Skipper is one of the most well-known boards in the Catch Surf Lineup and for good reason. I would consider the Skipper to be more of a performance board in the Catch Surf family for a few reasons. First the volume in the skipper is not super high like some of the other models which is going to give the board increased performance in more aggressive turns. Second the rocker in the Skipper is much more pronounced than other models which can help with taking steeper drops in waves without getting the nose hung up. The third difference I notice is the Skipper has more of a pulled in nose then say the Log which means while executing sharp precise turns the nose is not going to get hung up. Can the Skipper work for beginners that are lightweight? Yes of course it can, however if you're looking to pick up your first soft top and you don't want to get a longboard check out the Logs. Now for the beginner to intermediate rider the Skipper is perfect for progressing to the next level. This is personally one of my favorite boards for shore beach breaks because it paddles fast and with that extra bit of rocker, I can fit into the pocket better. The added bonus of being a soft top means I can charge in steeper waves and not worry about the board hurting me, when the wave closes out.
